Israel, sociedad que cayó al precipicio: Finkelstein

October 30th, 2009 by Tito

Norman G Finkelstein is an American academic, historian and activist, that has carefully documented, studied and strongly criticized the Israeli occupation of the ancestral lands of the Palestinian people in the Middle East. In this segment, RD presents an interview with professor Finkelstein regarding the current state of the conflict. Using a detailed analysis of the legal and political facts regarding the occupation, Dr Finkelstein strongly concludes that the strategic alliance between Israel and the US is unilateral blocking a peaceful resolution to the occupation; in fact, Israel and the US are basically alone in opposing the international consensus of a two-state solution that is proposed and defended, even if somewhat tepidly, by the rest of the international community. In the interview, he provides chilling details regarding the massacre that touched the hearts of all decent people the world over this past December of 2008, when Israeli armed forces massacred more than 1300 Palestinians in the Gaza, including over 400 children, a brutal attack that even some Israeli soldiers described as “insane”. We at RD would also like to point out that the analysis given by Professor Finkelstein is known for its reliance on large and uncontroversial documentary evidence, the adherence to reason and common sense, and the unyielidng defence of basic principles such as justice, democracy, love and freedom, and that for doing so his academic career has virtually come to an end, something that he does not lament because dignity and the truth has no price, a fact that he, as well as us, can always observe in the brave struggle for freedom carried by our palestinian brothers.
